The Hataman-Dumarpa Anti-Discrimination Bill

Rep. Mujiv Hataman of AMIN Party List and Rep. Faysah RPM Dumarpa of Lanao del Sur had filed two different bills on anti-Discrimination. Their bills are now being consolidated into one. 

This consolidated bill is now on the process of being formulated and framed. We would like to hear your views about this bill and help contirbute to its construction by making your comments on its draft posted here.

AMIN Radio Program

AMIN RadioAMIN (Anak Mindanao) Party List launched its Radio Programs a month ago on September 4, 2007, in three radio stations in Iligan City namely, Radio Station DXIC of the Radio Mindanao Network, I FM of Radio Mindanao Network and DXLS Love Radio of the Nation Broadcasting Corporation. The said radio programs occupies morning Prime Time slots in these stations, from 5:45 AM - 6:OO AM (DXIC and I FM) and 6:45AM to 7:00AM (DXLS, Love Radio).

The said radio stations claims not less than 2 million listeners in Iligan City but also in Lanao del Norte, Lanao del Sur, Misamis Oriental, Misamis Occidental and other neighboring provinces in Mindanao and some areas in the Visayas.

These AMIN radio programs entitled Legal Information, talks on legal concerns and AMIN advocacies on peace, justice and the unity of the Tri-people of Mindanao. The program is aired daily from Mondays to Saturdays and is hosted by Atty. Vermin M. Quimco, of the local NGO, Call for Justice. Atty Ver Quimco is also a former candidate nominee of Anak Mindanao Party List.

Owing to the success and realizing the effectiveness and wide reach of this pioneering AMIN Radio program in Iligan, AMIN is planning to replicate the same to other radio stations of at least the major cities in Mindanao.  

 
European Filipino Migrants Conference

The European Filipino Migrants’ Conference, "Converging Filipino Diaspora Global Initiatives for Sustainable Development," will be held on November 2, 2007 in Amsterdam, The Netherlands. This conference is organized and sponsored by two Filipino organizations in Netherlands, the Stichting Habagat and Damayang Pilipino sa Nederland together with Oxfam-Novib of Netherlands.

The general objective of the conference is to develop a common agenda towards harnessing the development potentials of migration. The Conference wants to underline the importance of the contribution of the migrant and overseas Filipinos to the development of the Philippines, emphasizing the better use of their remittances, skills and acquired knowledge.

Invited as keynote speakers to the conference are two legislators of the Philippines, Majority Leader of the Philippine Senate, Senator Francis "Kiko" Pangilinan, and from the Lower House, AMIN (Anak Mindanao) Party List Representative Mujiv S. Hataman. Also invited from the Philippines to speak on different topics before the conference are, Djahlia Sitti Turabin, a young Moro leader of the Moro Human Rights Center, Mai Añonuevo, executive director ATIKHA, Mila D. Aguilar, Writer, poet and artist and Prof. Rolando G. Talampas of the University of the Philippines.

The Filipino resource persons will shed light on the current situation of the Philippines on a number of relevant themes related to migration and development. A Panel of Reactors composed of migrant and overseas Filipinos will share their specific responses and current initiatives.

The organizers anticipate Filipinos and various Filipino organizations coming from all over Europe to attend the conference.

‘Witch-hunt’ vs Muslim groups feared

MANILA, Philippines -- A Mindanao-based party-list group on Monday expressed fears of a government “witch-hunt” in Muslim communities following reports that the Rajah Solaiman Revolutionary Movement (RSRM) has owned up to the Glorietta 2 blast on Friday.

Anak Mindanao (Amin) party-list Rep. Mujiv Hataman called on the authorities to conduct a thorough probe into the blast and not just center their investigation on Islamic rebel groups.

The congressman said Amin shares the skepticism of some sectors that the RSRM was behind the explosion.

“We fear that in the haste to solve the case, it will just be attributed to extremist Islamic groups, resulting in indiscriminate arrests and justifying another crackdown, the target of which will be mostly Mindanaoans, particularly Muslims,” Hataman said.
