ANTI-DISCRIMINATION BILL filed by AMIN Rep.Mujiv Hataman
Friday, 09 November 2007
During the re-opening of the session of the 14th Congress on November 5, 2007, AMIN Party List Representative, Hon. Mujiv S. Hataman filed a Bill Criminalizing Discrimination or House Bill 3012.
Part of the explanatory note of the Bill states that,"As part of the global community, the Philippines is aware of the United Nations declarations on religious intolerance, which have become more relevant in present times where the backlash of the September 11, 2001 has been greatly felt by Muslims all over the world. The Muslims in Mindanao and elsewhere in the Philippines are no exception. Thus, in keeping with the 1981 Declaration On The Elimination Of All Forms Of Intolerance And Of Discrimination Based On Religion Or Belief, and the 1993 Resolution on the Elimination Of All Forms Of Religious Intolerance, this Act addresses religious and other forms of discrimination.
The past months have been a period of renewed conflict in Basilan, bringing tragic, brutal deaths and painful displacement of communities.
Last September 25-27, a Relief and Fact-finding Mission in Tipo-Tipo, Basilan was held by the PINK (Pinay-Kilos!), Mindanao Solidarity Network, the Office of Senator Trillanes, Moro Human Rights Center, Stop the War Coalition, PAHRA, and AMIN Partylist, with support from An Waray Partylist and Pax Christi-Miriam College.
We would like to invite you to a forum/roundtable discussion we are calling “Basilan: Seeking Truth, Struggling for Peace”. The highlight of the program will be a detailed report of the fact-finding and relief mission in Tipo-tipo. There will also be a background on the peace situation in Basilan and Mindanao, and a discussion of the peace and human rights issues that have emerged.
We hope that you will also be able to participate and share the perspectives, experiences, and recommendations of your organization.
Most of all, we are hoping that the discussion will lead to some concrete actions that will support the people of Basilan in their search for peace based on justice.
The forum/roundtable be from 1:30 to 5:00 p.m. on November 14, 2007, at the Balay Kalinaw, University of the Philippines, Diliman.
We look forward to your presence and continuing solidarity.
For the convenors,
Karen N. Tanada Mindanao Solidarity Network

People pretending to be officials of AMIN have been using a stationery with a list of names of people who are allegedly officers elected during a supposed "4th Congress".
This stationery with the said list of officers, were used in the chain of letters sent to AMIN President Prof. Moy Edding, and signed by a certain Timuay Alim Bandara who claims to be AMIN President. This stationery was also used in a letter sent to the Speaker of the House of Representatives. This same stationery was again used in a latest "unsigned" Memorandum issued by a phantom "Office of the National Council 4th Congress of AMIN Party List." This cheap trick is obviously made in order to give a semblance of legitimacy to their pretensions, in vain effort to make the public believe that the persons whose names appear in this stationery agree with their spurious positions.
Europe-based OFW groups Stichting Habagat, Damayan and BisDak (Bisayang Daku), with the support of Oxfam Novib is conducting a week-long series of activities for the European Filipino migrants, themed “Converging Filipino Diaspora Global Initiatives for Sustainable Development.”
The activity kicked off with a Fiesta Filipiniana held at Rotterdam on October 27, highlighted by a cultural presentation from a Germany-based cultural group Pilipino-German-American. Said activity was attended by around 300 Filipino migrants and their families.
October 29-30 was the Experts’ Meeting held at Utrecht, attended by migrant leaders from San Francisco, Saudi Arabia, Germany, Switzerland, Denmark, Italy, Netherlands and the Philippines.
Ms. Sitti Djalia Turabin of the Moro Human Rights Center and AMIN (Anak Mindanao) Party List, gave a presentation on the situation of OFWs from Mindanao, especially their families who are left in the conflict areas of Mindanao, particularly in the provinces of Sulu and Basilan. Ms. Turabin led the Fact-Finding Mission in Basilan after the ambush and beheading of Marine forces in the said province that led to the declaration of another all-out war.
Daughter of overseas workers herself, Sitti Djalia will also give a talk on “The Gender Perspective on Migration, Peace and Development” during the European Filipino Migrants Conference on November 2, at Amsterdam, Netherlands, to be attended by Filipino migrants from all over the world.
Ms. Turabin will continue her stay in the Netherlands after the conference, and visit other countries in Europe for a series of forums and talks about Peace in Mindanao and also to give updates on the activities of both the Moro Human Rights Center and Anak Mindanao (AMIN) Party List.
