RESOLUTION EXPRESSING THE SENSE OF THE HOUSE ON THE ISRAELI INCURSION OF LEBANON AND GAZA STRIP AND JOINS INTERNATIONAL AND REGIONAL ORGANIZATIONS HEADED BY THE UNITED NATIONS (UN), EUROPEAN UNION (EU), ASSOCIATION OF SOUTHEAST ASIAN NATIONS (ASEAN), ORGANIZATION OF ISLAMIC CONFERENCE (OIC), AND THE ARAB LEAGUE IN EXHAUSTING ALL PEACEFUL AND DIPLOMATIC MEANS TO END THE WAR AND/OR IMMEDIATE CALL FOR CEASEFIRE
WHEREAS, the recent outbreak of the rekindled feud between Lebanon and Israel is causing more tensions to a very volatile Middle East crisis already occurring in Palestine, Iraq, Iran and Syria;
WHEREAS, the bombings started following the capture of two Israeli soldiers by Hezbollah almost a month ago prompting the Israeli government to launch on July 12 a military offensive to recover the two soldiers and hunt the Hezbollah fighters;
WHEREAS, since the spark of the conflict, substantial numbers of innocent civilian casualties on both sides were documented as a result of the indiscriminate shelling and air attacks, to include direct targeting and destroying the base of the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) last June 25, killing four of its members and several others; |
