A Renewed Commitment for the Bangsamoro Struggle

AMIN Party list in cooperation with the Bangsamoro Civil Society Consortium and other Moro NGOs will hold a gathering of all pioneering and alumni Moro activists of the erstwhile Moro national democratic movement. This reunion and conference of the Moro NatDem "old guards" will be held on October 20-23, 2007 at Zamboanga City. Leading the convenors are Congressman Mujiv Hataman of AMIN Party List, from Cotabato, Mr. Guiamel Alim of the Bangsamoro Civil Society Consortium, from Sulu, Ms. Fatmawati Salapudin of the Bangsamoro Women Foundation, from Marawi City, Ms. Adel Ditucalan and Mr. Salic Ibrahim, and from Zamboanga Peninisula, Mr. Moner Ampuan.

This reunion gathering was conceptualized in light of the pressing issues confronting the Moro people, and how the Moro civil society can respond to it. Former Moro activists, now mostly NGO workers and civil society actors, met with Congressman Mujiv Hataman to discuss possibility of gathering together former Moro activists in order to come up with a unified view of the Bangsamoro situation and draw possible course of action. They all agree that these former Moro activists, the old guards of the Bangsamoro National Democratic movement, has a lot to share and contribute to the Bangsamoro struggle even in their own personal capacities. Afterall, they have already made their mark and etched their niche in the overall Bangsamoro struggle by contributing largely to the development of the Bangsamoro mass movement and pioneering the Moro community development work. Their rich experience in Moro work will contribute a lot in the development of a new paradigm for the Bangsamoro struggle.

This gathering highlights the reunion of former comrades, who for ages, have not seen each other. For a long time now, these Moro ND activists have parted and went their separate ways. Many decided to settle down having families of their own while some decided to continue with their work under a different circumstance. For a time, they have been kept in a distance from each other because of differences that are not of their own making. A prescribed vulgar ideology and distorted organizational discipline of the former ND movement had caused the division among the old Moro activists. Although, such practice is still prevalent in some ideologically-challenged organizations styling themselves "revolutionaries" and pretending to be pro-Bangsamoro.

The Convenors of this reunion-conference subscribed to a sure-fire formula for uniting all former Moro activists and gathering them together in a reunion: Take off all ideological pretensions, personal biases and organizational stigma, and let the Moro activists sit together and squarely talk about the Bangsamoro issues as Moros. This formula got its result fast. Immediately, a number of individuals signified their desire to attend the reunion. Old comrades from elsewhere around Mindanao, and even those based in Metro Manila, had signified their intent to attend the reunion-conference.
