Dear friends,
The past months have been a period of renewed conflict in Basilan, bringing tragic, brutal deaths and painful displacement of communities.
Last September 25-27, a Relief and Fact-finding Mission in Tipo-Tipo, Basilan was held by the PINK (Pinay-Kilos!), Mindanao Solidarity Network, the Office of Senator Trillanes, Moro Human Rights Center, Stop the War Coalition, PAHRA, and AMIN Partylist, with support from An Waray Partylist and Pax Christi-Miriam College.
We would like to invite you to a forum/roundtable discussion we are calling “Basilan: Seeking Truth, Struggling for Peace”. The highlight of the program will be a detailed report of the fact-finding and relief mission in Tipo-tipo. There will also be a background on the peace situation in Basilan and Mindanao, and a discussion of the peace and human rights issues that have emerged.
We hope that you will also be able to participate and share the perspectives, experiences, and recommendations of your organization.
Most of all, we are hoping that the discussion will lead to some concrete actions that will support the people of Basilan in their search for peace based on justice.
The forum/roundtable be from 1:30 to 5:00 p.m. on November 14, 2007, at the Balay Kalinaw, University of the Philippines, Diliman.
