ANAK MINDANAO REPRESENTATIVE JOINS GRP-MNLF TRIPARTITE MEETING |
|
February 14, 2008 Anak Mindanao Representative Mujiv S. Hataman is currently in Besiktas, Istanbul, Turkey, as part of the Philippine delegation to the Second Tripartite Meeting between the Government of the Philippines and the Moro National Liberation Front. Facilitated by the Organization of Islamic Conference, the meeting is part of the on-going Review of the Implementation of the 1996 GRP-MNLF Peace Agreement.
Hataman said this meeting is vital to the peace process. “Just because an Agreement is already reached and signed does not mean that the process has ended. It has been 12 years since the GRP- MNLF Final Peace Agreement but peace remain elusive in Mindanao, particularly in the Muslim areas,” he said. "There is a need to constantly review the provisions and terms of implementation of the said Peace Agreement, especially in the light of current developments. The issues are constantly evolving, the parties to the agreement must seek to tailor what has been agreed twelve years ago, to address the realities of today," the Muslim solon said. With Rep. Mujiv Hataman are Rep. Yusop M. Jikiri of First District of Sulu and Chairman of the House Special Committee on Peace, Reconciliation and Unity, members of the MNLF Negotiating Panel and Representatives of the Office of the Presidential Adviser on the Peace Process (OPAPP).
