HATAMAN CONDEMNS ZAMBOANGA BOMBING

zamboanga bombing A bomb exploded in the City of Zamboanga around 10:30 in the morning, May 29, 2008, killing at least two people and leaving 19 others wounded. Initial reports show that the bomb was placed in a baggage and left within the vicinity of the Edwin Andrews Airbase, Brgy. Sta. Maria, Zamboanga City .

In a statement released by the office of Anak Mindanao Representative Mujiv S. Hataman, the solon expressed his sincerest sympathy and condolences to the victims and their families and to the people of Zamboanga.

“This latest bombing incident is another dastardly act that deserves the strongest form of condemnation. Only the most cruel and merciless are capable of such acts. An immediate, thorough investigation must be conducted so that justice may be immediately served,” Hataman said.

Rep. Hataman however cautioned against a crackpot investigation that will result not to the punishment of the real culprits but will victimize more innocent people. He cited previous incidents where authorities just look for scapegoats in their haste to put a closure to the case.

Furthermore, Hataman called on the people of Zamboanga to be vigilant but calm in facing this recent tragedy.“ Zamboanga City has been relatively peaceful for the past years, and enjoying an unprecedented surge in progress and development. We must all act together in ensuring that what Zamboanga has gained over the years will not be hindered by this incident. Giving in to fear and confusion will only serve the evil purpose of the perpetrators,” he said.
