HOUSE ADOPTS HATAMAN'S RESOLUTION 578

The House of Representatives adopted in its plenary on June 03, 2008, Resolution No. 578 filed by Anak Mindanao Representative Mujiv S. Hataman.

Said Resolution seek for the sense of the House on the phasing out of the Malaysian contingent from the International Monitoring Team and to join the public call  for the Malaysians to continue its support to the peace  process between the Government of the Republic of the Philippines and the Moro Islamic Liberation Front.

"My sincerest gratitude to all the members of the House of Representatives. The adoption of this Resolution is of utmost relevance to our struggle for Peace in Mindanao," Hataman said in a statement. "Ito ay isang tanda ng pakikiisa ng Mababang Kapulungan sa panawagan ng karamihan, lalo na ng iba't-ibang peace groups na ipagpatuloy ng Malaysia ang kanyang suporta sa usaping pangkapayapaan sa Mindanao," he said.

The Mindanaoan solon further called on the GRP and the MILF to extend its request to the Malaysian government to continue its engagement in the International Monitoring Team. "We have done our part in Congress, we'd like to see more efforts from the parties to the peace process...more sincere ones," Hataman challenged.

"Let us recognize the fact that the IMT, under the leadership of the Malaysian contingent was very  instrumental in effecting ceasefire agreements in the ground, thus saving countless lives in the region. Let us exhaust all measures available to retain the status quo in the IMT. We cannot afford to take risks because lives are at stake," he said.
