Muslims lawmaker warns vs 'short cuts' in GenSan blast probe

A party list solon on Monday condemned the bombing in the General Santos City's Public Market Sunday afternoon which killed 14 people and injured 50 others as he appealed to authorities not to make a witch-hunt, particularly on Muslims in apprehending the perpetrators

Anak Mindanao Rep.  Mujiv Hataman called the “architects” of heinous act as cowards for not sparing innocent lives like children who were among the fatalities "I condemn in the strongest possible terms this terrorist attack and coward act aimed at creating chaos in our country.  This is a crime against humanity,” Hataman said.

In delivering justice to victim’s families, he called on police and military officials to ensure a fair and square investigation.

He feared that Muslims will now be subjected to another wave of harassments and vilifications to the extent of presenting them in media as fall guys just to show that authorities are doing their work.

"We called on for a swift delivery of justice but police and military should conduct the probe thoroughly and should avoid hastily blaming Muslims and present them as fall guys,” Hataman said.

Among the casualties of bomb exploded at the public market in Barangay (village) South Dadiangas here at around 4:15 pm Sunday were two children, one was identified as 4-year old Niko Fromela.

Witnesses said the bomb exploded at stall number 82 of the meat section of the public market.

The market's ceiling was ripped apart while stall number 82 was a total wreck.

Witnesses said three persons died on the spot while other victims perished at the St. Elizabeth Hospital and others died at the General Santos Hospital.

The blast occurred as the government and the Muslim secessionist Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) were negotiating for the resumption of peace talks.

Breakaway factions of the MILF have been blamed for past bomb attacks in strife-torn Mindanao Island in the southern Philippines.
