The Hataman-Dumarpa Anti-Discrimination Bill

Rep. Mujiv Hataman of AMIN Party List and Rep. Faysah RPM Dumarpa of Lanao del Sur had filed two different bills on anti-Discrimination. Their bills are now being consolidated into one.

This consolidated bill is now on the process of being formulated and framed. We would like to hear your views about this bill and help contirbute to its construction by making your comments on its draft posted here.

GMA 7 SHOULD ASSESS THE EXTRA CHALLENGE SHOW

The recent episode of GMA Channel 7’s Extra Challenge show wherein some of its non-Muslim contestants were made to memorize the “Al-Fatiha”, the beginning chapter of the Holy Qur’an, is a blasphemy and a great insult to Islam and to its believers. The contestants are known in the country as sexy movie stars. Showing one’s flesh in public is totally unacceptable in Islam. Muslims observed many rules or etiquettes in dealing with the Holy Qur’an and none of those were met by the contestants. And for Muslims, the Al-Fatihah is not only a part of the Holy Book but the epitome of the whole Holy Qur’an.

In allowing those contestants to memorize the Holy Qur’an, the program producers, organizers, hosts, researchers, staff and participants show utter religious insensitivity and cultural ignorance. Their act is in the highest form of “kabastusan” which should not be left unattended by authorities. No one has the right to use any religion for the sake of increasing or maintaining one’s lead in the ratings war. For materialistic profit is contradictory with the principles of most of the world’s religions. Apology could be accepted but the damage has been done already. The insult was aggravated by the caption shown in the program which depicted male Muslims in Dubai as sex-craze people. We call on MTRCB Chairperson Ma. Consoliza Laguardia to investigate this matter and render the appropriate penalties

While we have high respect and admiration to most of GMA Channel 7 shows, its management should now reassess Extra Challenge for it had clearly go beyond the standards of decency, responsibility, and social relevance.
