REACTIONS TO PRESIDENT Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo’s State of the Nation Address (SONA) on Monday were predictably mixed, with one Catholic bishop saying that she had skirted around present conditions and his evangelical counterpart calling on the public to give her a chance.
Meanwhile, Anak ng Mindanao party-list Representative Mujiv Hataman assailed Ms Arroyo for citing the presence of the Jollibee fast-food chain in Isabela town, Basilan province, ostensibly to prove that development had come to the war-torn area.
“Are we now to assume that having a Jollibee outlet in a certain locality is the yardstick of progress of this President?” said the sectoral representative who is a native of Basilan.
Hataman said using Jollibee as a gauge to measure development was “too narrow-minded.”
“Is this how this government will solve poverty and well-entrenched corruption in [Basilan]?” he said. Read more on INQ7.net
